N for Nan was the call sign of the Lancaster my uncle John Doyle D.F.C. flew and died in.

This project is a tribute to the men he flew  with and for the sole survivor Sgt Frank Fealey.

The Nuremberg Raid on 31st March 1944 saw the biggest loss of aircraft on a single operation for the RAF in the entire war. Ninty six  Lancasters were lost of the 800 that took part ,and my Uncle's plane was the first to be shot down. This is mentioned in Martin Middlebrook's definitive account in the penguin book - The Nuremberg Raid.

As N for Nan was an old repaired plane having just survived their previous aborted mission. They took off first to test it and, in consequence, led the armada.
